Only 19% of women with learning disabilities have had a recent cervical screening, compared to 73% of the general population

Historic, completely unfounded and massively out of date assumptions about what women with learning disabilities can and can't do as well as what they do and do not want mean that across the UK women with learning disabilities often do not have access to the same healthcare access as women without learning disabilities. Dimensions, an organisation who work with people with learning disabilities and autism, explain why the current  lack of mandated face-to-face training around caring for people with learning disabilities, and little training around implementing reasonable adjustments to make a service accessible means that many women with disabilities are potentially put at risk.  To find out more about making primary healthcare more accessible please click here
